Classroom Engagement among MacEwan Nursing Students
This capstone project was a collaborative partnership with a professor from the Nursing program at MacEwan University. The professor sought to improve participation and engagement levels in her classes and within the program more broadly. Her overarching goal was to foster a more effective learning environment to support student success.

Design solutions
I studied the challenges nursing students at MacEwan University face in classroom collaboration and barriers to active participation. Through interviews, surveys, and extended literature reviews, my research has identified some key factors hindering active class participation, such as anxiety, information retrieval problems, and lack of confidence and motivation. Therefore, I designed a new built-in feature for Meskanas (a MacEwan University's digital learning platform), enabling students to create and complete anonymous quizzes. The tool doubles as a study aid, allowing users to store and review past quizzes. Quiz creators provide hints and explanations, earning reward points while tracking progress via visual charts. This fosters peer learning, collaboration, and a supportive academic environment where students actively contribute to each other’s success.
